Data Backup Policy

Backups / Restores

The Department of Medicine performs a backup of all network drives each night. Files that need to be backed up should be stored on your H: drive or in shared Division drives. Any file that contains EPHI should be stored on a network drive.
If you need a file restored from backup, contact us at 362-2165 or via e-mail at imhelp@im.wustl.edu.

Files to backup

You should only store work related data files on your network H or shared drives. Program files do not need to be copied to the network for backup. Personal files, pictures, etc. should not be placed on Department servers If you have questions about how to store your files so that they are backed up regularly, please contact us at 362-2165.

Local storage of files

Any files stored on local drives (C, D, etc.) are not backed up by the Department. If you store files on your local computer you should back them up as appropriate.

Computer rebuilds & file backups

If your computer requires a rebuild, IMCSS will do a standard backup of the following folders:

  • My Documents
  • Favorites
  • Deskop
  • Mail Archive

Any other data that the client wants backed up needs to be conveyed to the User Analyst, and the user may be asked to complete a form for verification.
